A horse's head hand-carved from a single block of banded onyx, the stone running honey, amber, and cream through a translucent body that catches light from across a room.
Hand-carved and hand-polished in Tehuacán, Mexico from natural onyx, so no two are alike. The banding and veining here are one of a kind. It reads as a bookend, and stands alone as a sculpture in its own right.
The silhouette is pure Art Deco, the arched neck and squared muzzle of a chess knight, simplified to its boldest lines. A quiet nod to the Year of the Horse.
There are chips to the base where the stone has taken knocks over the years. They sit low and out of sightline when displayed.
8.5 inches tall, 4 wide, 2.5 deep. Displays on a shelf or a desk.
Final sale in fair condition.
