A bison in black-on-black pottery, the form pared down to its essentials — the heavy shoulder hump, the low dropped head, the short curved horn.
The surface does the decorating. High-burnished gloss plays against matte black across the flank, where a medicine bundle sits framed by a fine sawtooth border — no paint, no glaze, just the contrast between polished and unpolished clay. It's the same technique that made Pueblo blackware famous, light catching one surface and sinking into the other. Turquoise stones mark the shoulder and back.
Signed by the artist on the underside. Sourced on a road trip through the American Southwest.
9 inches long, 6 tall, 2 deep. Displays on a shelf or a desk.
